The City of Jacksonville is governed by a Mayor and five City Council members elected at-large. City boards include the Planning Commission, the Civil Service Board, the elected Jacksonville City Board of Education, the Jacksonville Arts Council, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Jacksonville Public Library Board, the Water Works, Gas and Sewer Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. In addition to these, there are a number of non-government civic and philanthropic organizations such as The Exchange and Kiwanis Clubs and Lions Club.

Newcomers will find that living in Jacksonville is not only economical, it is convenient as well. Jacksonville provides a full range of city services to include Advanced Life Support emergency medical services, fire and police, water, gas and sewer, and garbage and trash services to include a recycling program. The city operates a senior center and a modern WWW connected public library.

City Council Meeting	2nd and 4th Monday night each month at 7:00 p.m. - City Hall, Church Avenue, SE, with Work Session scheduled at 6:00 p.m. prior to each Council meeting.
Municipal Court	1st and 3rd Monday night each month at 5:00 p.m., and first Wednesday after the 2nd Monday of each month at 3:00 p.m. - City Hall, Church Avenue, SE.
Civil Service Board	1st Monday each month at 5:30 p.m. - Civil Service Board Office, Ladiga Street, SE.
Planning Commission	3rd Tuesday each month at 6:00 p.m. - City Hall, Church Avenue, SE.
Zoning Board of Adjustment	4th Tuesday each month at 6:00 p.m. - City Hall, Church Avenue, SE.
Water Works, Gas & Sewer Board	3rd Monday each month at 8:00 a.m. - City Hall, Church Avenue, SE.
