The City of Jacksonville was awarded Tree City USA status as of 2009. This achievement recognizes the town’s vision in promoting community forest stewardship and education. In 2012, the City also earned the Tree City Growth Award. As of 2011, Jacksonville State University became the second Alabama university to earn recognition as a Tree Campus USA.
