Valentine's From the Heart  Program

One hundred twenty adults and children showed up at the public library Thursday, February 1st
to make valentines for area shut-ins. This marks the 15th year the library has sponsored the Valentines from the Heart program. The event is always a crowd pleaser. By the time the volunteers had finished designing their masterpieces, over 500 valentines were ready to be delivered to the Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, Myrick Manor, Meadows of Jacksonville, Legacy Village and Jacksonville Health and Rehab.
According to Jacksonville Public Library Director Barbara Rowell, the library furnishes all the materials needed including paper hearts, lace, feathers, sequins, beads, stickers and yarn, and asks the public to help make valentines from their hearts to share with area shut-ins. “This year was a huge success,” says Rowell. “Thank you all for participating--your kindness will mean so much to these senior citizens on Valentine's Day! The recipients are delighted each year to receive these unique valentines.”
