Do you have a pet that needs to be spayed or neutered? As a Jacksonville resident, you can save money while getting your pet an operation that can help reduce the stray animal population and keep local shelters from overloading.

Just take proof of residency with you to the Calhoun County Commission office to save $15 on the purchase of one of their "snip-it ticket" vouchers. The City Council each year approves a $3,000 sponsorship that covers the discount for up to 200 vouchers. The discounted vouchers are first-come, first-serve and are replenished each year in October at the start of the city's fiscal year.

With the discount included, neuters are $35 for dogs and $20 for cats, and spays are $50 for dogs and $35 for cats.

Call the County Commission at 256-241-2800 for more information about the Snip-It Ticket program, or visit www.calhouncounty.org/animal/snipit.html

Together, we can help reduce the homeless animal population in our community and make a difference!
