Coronavirus Updates #1

From:  The Mayor’s Desk

To:  Citizens of Jacksonville

I wanted to take a few minutes in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic and share with you what your City leadership team has been doing to prepare the City.  My priorities are threefold:  (1) Safety and Health of our Workforce; (2) Minimize transmission of the disease; and (3) Maintain continuity of operations.

The City has taken a number of steps including working remotely; closing some facilities to the public and keeping other facilities open where workers can maintain social and physical distance.  See the list of Open and Closed Facilities.  All citizens should know and take comfort that our First Responders are trained, on the job and ready to protect each of you and our businesses.

You can still call City Hall.  Calls are answered and the phone number provided to the appropriate department.   If you know the department you need to reach you can call the Department Heads directly.  Frequently requested items are on a table in the open foyer area of City Hall.  City services including trash, recycle, Street, Utility Office, Utility Maintenance, Waste Water Treatment Plan, and PARD Maintenance Department are all continuing at this time without interruption.

City Council Members continue to take care of the business of the City.  An approved Resolution gives me emergency spending.  Council Meetings will continue as scheduled with live streaming for transparency.  Citizens are encouraged to watch online.  Those that desire to attend the meetings can do so; however we must adhere to Attendance Rules regarding social distance and sickness.

Bottom-line, there are still a lot of uncertainties regarding this pandemic.  With your safety and that of our workforce in mind, we have Postponed Events.  We will continue to actively monitor the situation and provide updates.  Current operating procedures will be re-assessed before April 14th.  For additional info below is a list of local, state, and national resources on COVID-19:
