Public Education

Each year, approximately 3,500 people die in the U.S. as a result of fires. The majority of these fires occur in the home. The most effective way to save lives and prevent property loss from fires is to prevent them before they start. We are committed to providing quality fire and life safety training to our citizens.

The Jacksonville Fire Department presents fire prevention and safety programs to all age groups. Our busiest time of the year is during October which is Fire Prevention Month. Our programs are presented to approximately 1,500 children and adults each year. Fire Station tours are also available. Using the Fire Safety House, which was built by the members of the Jacksonville Professional Firefighters Association, we are able to deliver Fire Safety Programs to children and let them practice what to do in the event of a fire. We offer a variety of classes that teach fire prevention and safety. Contact our administrator at 256-435-2310 for more information.
