The City of Jacksonville is proud to announce its official participation in America 250 Alabama, a statewide initiative to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
On July 4, 2026, the United States will mark its Semiquincentennial — 250 years since the founding of our nation. To honor this historic milestone, the Alabama USA Semiquincentennial Commission, America 250 Alabama, is leading a multi-year effort to explore the unique stories, diverse heritage and enduring principles that define our state and nation.
As a community rich in history and civic pride, Jacksonville is joining cities across Alabama to Educate, Engage, and Unite. Our participation in this national celebration is an opportunity to:
- Educate: Share the unique history of Jacksonville and Calhoun County, from our founding to our role in the modern Alabama story.
- Engage: Encourage our residents — especially students and young leaders — to reflect on the responsibilities of citizenship and the "lessons of liberty."
- Unite: Host community events that bring us together to celebrate our shared American journey and the promise of our future, including our Black History Month program and JaxFest celebration of Independence Day.
America 250 is more than just a single day of celebration; it is an invitation for every citizen to "Share Your Story." Whether through local historical projects, community service, or public celebrations, there are many ways for Jacksonville residents to take part.
