Garbage Collection Service

Garbage and recycling collection service for the City of Jacksonville is provided by Republic Services.  Republic Services provides the carts.  Direct any requests for new carts or for repairs to the City of Jacksonville at 256-435-7611.  On your collection day, the cart should be placed at curbside the night before, about 3 feet from objects like mailboxes and power poles, and should be removed by 7:00 p.m. the day of collection.  There will be no garbage/recycle pick-up on the following holidays when the holiday falls on a regular work day (Monday through Friday):  New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  Pickup will be delayed by one day after each of these holidays.

Trash Collection Service
Trash (includes limbs, grass and shrubbery clippings, furniture, large moving boxes, cardboard boxes, glass, clothing, toys, wood and items too large to place in garbage cart) will be collected by the City Street and Sanitation Department.  Place items beside the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day, including electronics.  Electronics will be written down and collected on the following Friday.  Please call the City Street Department at 256-435-3582 if you do not receive a pick-up on your scheduled day.  All items should be placed on the City right-of-way so workers may reach it from standing in the street and at least 3 feet from objects like mailboxes and power poles.  From April 1st thru September 30th, grass clippings and leaves MUST be bagged to ensure weekly pickup; loose grass clippings and leaves will be vacuumed up as manpower allows during this period.  There will be no trash pick-up on City-recognized holidays.

At the city clerk's office, you may:

  • Request garbage, recycling, and trash pick-up calendar.
  • Apply for a garbage fee exemption – for households whose only source of income is from Social Security and/or VA benefits that directly reduce Social Security benefits. (Common examples of “other income” that is not permissible to receive the exemption include child support, alimony, rental income and interest income. This is not a complete list.) Garbage Fee Exemption Application
  • Apply for a back-door garbage pick-up – for residents living alone that are physically unable to place cart at curb.

Recycling Collection Service

Republic Services provides curbside recycling, with one scheduled pick-up per every other week. Each household is provided a recycling cart, and your participation is optional. The cart should be placed curbside the night before your collection day and removed by 7:00 p.m. the day of collection. Republic will not pick up recycle material that has been bagged.

A recycle calendar is available below and at City Hall. To determine your households recycle pickup day, call City Hall at 256-435-7611.
