How Do I Check for a Water Leak?

  • Be sure no water is on or being used inside your house.  This includes toilets, ice machines, washing machines, etc.
  • Write down the reading showing on your water meter.  Read the dial from left to right.   Your water meter is usually in your yard, close to the road.  Be sure to replace the lid once you’ve written down the reading.
  • Wait about 20 minutes without any water being used and check the reading again on your meter.  If the reading has changed and the dial has moved, you have a water leak.
  • If you determine you have a leak you can either call a plumber or do the repairs yourself.  We are not responsible for the water line from your meter to your house.  This is the customer’s responsibility.
  • If you do make a repair, make sure to keep any invoices or receipts.  Under certain circumstances, we may be able to adjust a portion of your bill.  You can call the office at 256-435-7657 to see if you qualify for an adjustment.
  • REMINDER:  ALWAYS call us to turn your water off.  If it’s after normal office hours, you can call emergency dispatch at 256-435-6448.  Cutoff valves can break if turned incorrectly.  If you break our cutoff valve we will charge you $95 to replace.
